For as far back as she can remember, drawing and painting has defined and guided artist Cheska's life. Describing herself as born with a pencil in her hand, her earliest memories of her artistic abilities was winning an art prize as a 9 year old.
After a trip to Latin America, Cheska was deeply impacted by the incredible poverty of the people, yet was inspired by their joy and passion in spite of their circumstance. She focussed her artistic expression on the simple things in life which brings joy.
Cheska describes her ‘technique’ as what distinguishes her work. “The movement in my paint work and brush strokes together with my composition is important to me. I drip the paint on the canvas and do not physically touch the canvas with my brush" and " Having carried a journal with me everywhere I go, through my travels around the world, experiencing culture after culture, drawing with my pen as I wait for time to pass, placing visual pieces together to create an image wherever I may be."
Cheska creates a range of styles from minimalist expressionism pieces, to works inspired by cultures and countries she has seen,.
